One Last Little Thing Driving on someone else’s steam Starving but the fuel burns clean I got lost for a moment in a dream Nothing lost, nothing gained I turn the radio down and smile We left the reception at the county line There’s no order to a random life Just a little bit of mystery sometimes For that one last little thing Brings me back around here again And you know that it’s true That last little thing darling is you You’re that one last little thing Laughing under the clear blue sky It’s easy to lose track of time Your know your baby’s home just for awhile We’re lucky just to be ourselves Before the brightest star can fade I’ll be gone by morning but I’m here today It’s never been an easy thing to say So let’s talk about something else Like that one last little thing Brings me back around here again And you know that it’s true That last little thing darling is you You’re that one last little thing Torn by the wind It takes my heart And leaves my sins Driving on someone else’s steam Starving but the fuel burns clean I got lost for a moment in a dream Nothing lost, nothing gained I turn the radio down and smile We left the reception at the county line There’s no order to a random life Just a little bit of mystery sometimes For that one last little thing Brings me back around here again And you know that it’s true That last little thing darling is you You’re that one last little thing

Still On Fire Could you know it? Could you reach down inside and show it? Could you show it? Could you read your own mind and know it? Cause I know that you’re the one for me My love is true My love is true Take my hand and see Still on fire Never gonna let it die Still on fire Never gonna let it die I once was all alone But now I’ve seen what love has shown And now I’m sure My love is true My love is true Take my hand and see Still on fire Never gonna let it die Still on fire Never gonna let it die

Pioneer Woman When I love myself You know she loves me, too When I love myself You know she loves me, too But there times when I can’t stand to hear The sound of my own voice But then she loves me Like she never had a choice When times are good You know she’s right there by my side When times are good You know she’s right there by my side But when the days are dark And the nights the same You know I never heard her complain She’s my silver lining When the clouds won’t let up with rain In good times But mostly bad When my back’s against a wall She’s my pioneer woman Gonna catch me when I fall You know it takes a good woman To make a man walk straight You know it takes a good woman To make her man walk straight Because when he pulls up lame Off to the side And strays from his course She’ll mend a leg but she won’t put down that horse Of we go with our wonder lust Of we go with our wonder lust On the plateaus when the sun won’t die Off in the distance we ride Digging in the dirt on the mountainside

Easy Prey 04:25
Easy Prey I’m easy prey I’ll do anything you say Just love me tonight Set it right in the morning Clear the cobwebs away Another lazy day With paper thin walls That fall without warning We live our lives Dodging throwing knives On the circus high dive And on the street until morning Go where life’s being lived Only one life to give So just love me tonight I’ll say I’m easy prey We were fine how we were Cheap wine, fake fur Strike a nerve, make me purr Cause a stir but ain’t we living Now you don't seem sure And I need the cure So just love me tonight I’ll say I’m easy prey On the wire now Feeling fine now Eyes ahead Look down, you’re dead All heart, no head All heart, no head I’m easy prey Just let me stay We may sing too loud But at least we’re not boring Find a string we can play You can lead the way So just love me tonight I’ll say I’m easy prey
5.
Big Umbrella 02:50
Big Umbrella I want to sing it to my second floor ceiling Bounce it off of some very tall buildings To the roof to the big antenna Over the airwaves and up to the heavens My baby loves me like a big umbrella She’s got me covered in any kind of weather Always quick with a silver lining She reminds me that the sun is shining somewhere Everyday that we spend together Like a ruby from a sunken treasure I wander aimless when she’s not around me I thank the heavens that my baby found me I wanna tell her that I’m always gonna love her Spend the weekend underneath the covers Always quick with the perfect timing She reminds me that the sun is shining somewhere When you love someone you never let go When you love someone you never let go When you love someone you never let go….

Fix Is In 02:16
The Fix Is In Don’t try to exercise your rights Because the fix is in There's nothing fair about this fight Because the fix is in Don't try to demonstrate your mind Because the fix is in Most of us get left behind Because the fix is in Don't try to improve yourself Because the fix is in You can forget about your health Because the fix is in Don't try to educate your kids Because the fix is in Just leave the keys and hit the skids Because the fix is in If we let them build a bridge to nowhere We could tell them all to take a hike and go there You can say it ain’t so Just don’t tase me bro It’s one vote for each Because money ain’t free speech Judge Roberts don’t you know? A corporation is a person, too Because the fix is in And they write the laws and ram them through Because the fix is in The banks are nothing but loan sharks Because the fix is in That's why we occupy these parks Because the fix is in
7.
Live One 03:58
You’re A Live One Another boomtown ghost Slinking out of town Can’t stand here and be idle Can’t wait for the ship to go down The factory line was packed up And moved like a traveling show Now our home is underwater I wonder where did all the money go? They chopped it up like cocaine Then they cut it dangerous stuff And they pedaled it to gamblers Betting on a banker’s bluff Now everybody’s money Just buys us less and less And the shovel’s getting smaller As we dig out of this mess You’re a live one Stuck on the hook but surviving Politicians in the pockets And there’s gold stashed in the vaults And there’s money still in rockets We’re human too a fault And we’ve got bankers with no anchors And the money’s being spent Don’t come at us with logic Just shut up and pay rent You’re a live one Stuck on the hook but surviving Talking heads, wagging dogs Are busy spinning yarns While in Tennessee the farmers Are bailing out their barns No one wants to own a mess So just kick it on down the road And no one wants to do with less When they’re already in the cold You’re a live one Stuck on the hook but surviving
8.
Blues On Sideways A billion bored and lonely souls Searching for something to fill the holes Between daydreams as they shovel coal File reports and pay their tolls They act the part and play the role But they’re happy just to lose control For three minutes until their next parole From manipulations by the thought patrol Now give back the moments that you stole Give me something to make me whole Because there’s something I’ve been trying to tell you I put my blues on sideways I listen for the sounds Of hound dogs on open highways Is this the dark before the dawn The edges smoothed, the seams are sewn To an ideal cliché, a perfect clone Forged from a woman that we’ve all known The whore, the mother, or the Arc of Joan God bless the child that’s got her own Even if it’s out on loan You stole from your sister But you’re not alone There’s nothing here for Ma Rainey now No extra flesh, no crooked smile No pain in the voice on the radio Chorus And we listen but we don’t really hear Behind the veil, the shifting gears The unison thump of a thousand steer They love the sound but don’t have ears The meaningless is still revered With success comes a thousand tears Because no one ever made it out of here That wasn’t blinding you with magic So now you know So let’s start the show Because there’s something that they’re trying to sell you Chorus

about

In The Kitchen

The new album by Jonah Smith and Andy Stack started with a simple idea: to make an acoustic record with no outside help from engineers or producers. In October they started setting up microphones in the kitchen of Andy’s apartment in Queens, NY. A simple concept turned into two days of the musicians running wires, taping microphones to ceilings, tacking blankets over windows and generally trying to get things to sound like a record before the first note was played.

Finally, after everything was set up, the two musicians sat facing each other in the warm sounding kitchen and started making music. What was meant to be an EP grew to an eight-song record with six previously unrecorded tracks and two acoustic versions of tunes that were on the just released, Little Known Cure.

The album opener, "One Last Little Thing", is bluegrass tinged, country folk song with Andy doubling on guitar and banjo and layered harmonies that would fit in on a CSN&Y record. The track also features the acoustic bass playing of Ben Rubin who has appeared on every Smith recording – he plays on this track and "The Fix Is In".

Following that is the introspective slow burner, "Still On Fire", which is a duet with Melissa Ahern of She & The Sun. The song is reminiscent of the Swell Season with an earnestness that is not overpowering but packs an emotional punch.

Other songs include the folk blues, "Pioneer Woman" as well as the protest song "The Fix Is In" which Smith wrote while making the video for "Live One" -- the opening track of Little Known Cure which reappears here as a folk tune. The beautiful ballad, "Easy Prey" is the only song on the record that Smith plays Rhodes electric piano on – a trademark of his other records. The mellow groove of "Big Umbrella" is a simple love song written for Smith’s wife. And the album is rounded out with an acoustic version of "Blues On Sideways".

The record was made a few months before Smith relocated to Los Angeles. The session fell to the back burner for several months during this time until finally, Smith pulled up the tracks and began going through the takes. After several months away from the project he was exited about what he heard, enough to want them to sound as good as possible. He decided to bring in Adam Munoz to mix the tracks at Fantasy Studios in San Francisco. Adam and Jonah first worked together on Jonah’s 2006 self-titled record that was produced by Lee Townsend.

The end result is an album essentially “unproduced” by the artists themselves with a surprisingly good sonic quality, intimate performances and a high level of song craft that fans of Jonah Smith’s music have come to expect.

The CD will be released on July 13th with a show at Joe’s Pub in New York. There will be a limited edition pressing of 500 copies that will each be signed and numbered.
